What is fucoidan?

Fucoidan is a sulfated polysaccharide found primarily in different brown seaweeds such as mozuku, wakame, kelp, and hijiki (different forms of fucoidan are also found in animals, including sea cucumbers). From the chemical structure, fucoidan contains significant polysaccharide molecules such as L-fucose, sulfate ester group, galactose, mannose, xylose and uronic acid.
